Registering on Mercado Libre in Argentina (2026)

Before your first listing you need an account. This is where many people stop.

In Argentina you cannot register without a DNI. It used to be easier, now the platform checks the document.

A precaria, temporary status or monotributo will not do for registration. You need an actual DNI.

If you have a DNI

You register as an individual, then add monotributo. It is the shortest route, and there is no reason to delay it.

The trusted-person route

The account is opened by someone who has the document. A friend, a partner, an acquaintance.

Be clear about what you are agreeing to. The account is in their name. The money goes to them. So does the liability. It all rests on trust, there are no other guarantees here.

The company route

This is the structural option. An SRL or SA, the account in the company’s name, the money going to its account.

You still need a person with a DNI. Someone has to pass verification as the representative. A company does not get around the platform’s requirement, it makes the operation legal.

The upside is obvious. You are on legal ground and the revenue sits on the company’s books, not on an acquaintance’s card.

What to do

If you have a DNI, register today. If you do not, use a trusted person for now and open a company for the long run.
