I sell on Mercado Libre from Argentina, bring goods in from China and run my own warehouse in Buenos Aires. Everything written here has been tested on my own shipments, not retold from someone else’s guides.

How to sell on Mercado Libre without Spanish

Many people still think that getting into Latin America means cramming Spanish or paying translators. That has not been true for a long time.

Most of the language barrier is handled by Mercado Libre itself, through its built-in AI. It is not there for show. Point by point:

Searching for products in Russian

You can type product names into search in Russian and the platform understands the query. No Google Translate, no hunting for Spanish search terms.

The system searches by meaning and returns the right items. For a newcomer that lowers the barrier a great deal.

Support in Russian

There is an AI assistant inside the platform. Not a scripted bot from 2015, it understands Russian and handles real tasks:

  • sorts out shipping and dispatch;
  • explains why moderation rejected a listing;
  • advises on account settings.

Perfect Spanish is no longer needed for 90% of day-to-day questions.

A listing built from a photo

Listings used to be a pain of their own. Title, keywords, specs, translation. Now you upload a photo of the product and the system:

  • recognises the object;
  • suggests the category;
  • pulls in the specs;
  • helps fill in the listing in the local language.

What used to take hours of dull work now happens almost by itself.

Video with voiceover

The most underrated thing here. Take a clip from a supplier, from 1688 or filmed yourself, upload it to Mercado Libre, and the algorithms add a Spanish voiceover, lay in subtitles and fit the format to the platform.

Do not forget copyright if you use someone else’s video.

Traffic from ML Clips

Mercado Libre is pushing its in-house answer to TikTok hard. People get hooked on the clips and go straight into product listings. Together with the auto-voiceover above, that is excellent free traffic. The more clips you test, the more reach you collect.

What it adds up to

Starting out used to require the language. Plus an editor, a copywriter and a lot of time. Today the platform’s own tools handle around seventy per cent of that grind.

In 2026 the obstacle to entering Latin America is no longer the language. It is that people cannot be bothered to pick up the tools lying right in front of them.
